Top 10 Anime Similar to Inuyasha

Growing up, we watched golden anime like Dragon Ball, Pokémon, and Detective Conan. These anime are examples of ones we shared our childhoods with. Inuyasha is one of them. We fell in love with the characters, the plot, and the events. To go down that memorylane once again, we really don’t have to rewatch Inuyasha. We can opt for others that are quite similar to it, such as:

  1. The Vision of Escaflowne

Hitomi Kanzaki, a rather ordinary 15-year-old schoolgirl with an interest in fortune telling and tarot cards, meets, all of a sudden, Van Fanel. This boy brings with him a vicious dragon, both of them dragging each other in the sky. Hitomi’s premonition leads to Van successfully killing the dragon, but a pillar of light appears and envelopes both of them. Then, she finds herself in a mysterious land floating in the sky, the world of Gaea.

Later on, Hitomi finds out what this land is, the Kingdom of Fanelia, and Van is the prince. Soon after, this land falls under the spell of the evil empire of Zaibach. In order to save his kingdom, Van uses his family’s ancient guymelef Escaflowne, a mechanized battle suit, but he fails and Fanelia faces destruction. Running from evil, Hitomi and Van meet a handsome Asturian knight named Allen Schezar, and together, they work on reviving the ancient power.

  1. Kekkaishi

KekkaishiFrom the long line of Kekkaishi individuals blessed with supernatural abilities, ones that can evil creatures called Ayakashi comes Yoshimura Sumimura. These creatures tend to venture in the human world occasionally. The Ayakashi are demons that feed on the power coming from the land of Karasumori. Unfortunately, it’s placed exactly where Yoshimura’s high school.

To protect his hometown and school, Yoshimura must fight them, yet he prefers to be baking cakes off of fighting.Much to his luck, Yoshimura isn’t the only fighter to keep the Ayakashi at bay. Tokine Yukimura, a childhood friend and neighbor helps him along the way despite their rivalry. What happens next is entirely up to them to deal with.

Revisiting the past of 1995 when this anime came out. Junior-high students Miaka Yuuki and Yiu Hongo get transported into another mysterious world of a book, set in ancient China. All of this happens while browsing the National Library. The book is called The Universe of The Four Gods. Miaki finds herself as a priestess of Suzaku and all the responsibilities of her being fall on her shoulders.

She must find all of her celestial warriors.The god Seiryuu manipulated Yui into becoming the priestess of Seiryuu. The former best friends clash in a situation they can no longer control. Now, however, they fight as enemies to summon their gods and get their three wishes.

  1. The Twelve Kingdoms

Meet Nakajima Youko, another average and somewhat shy high school student. Strangely enough, one day, a rather strange man appears before her, swearing his allegiance and loyalty to her. Puzzled, she does not know how to handle such an oath, but before she can try to wrap her head around it, she gets attacked by a demon-like creature.

Youko and her pals get thrown in another world, one they have never seen before. After that, they get separated from their friend Keiki, to which, they do the impossible to help find her and to survive in such a cruel world.

  1. Tsubasa Chronicle

While digging up in the ruins of Clow Country, Syoaran meets his childhood friend Princess Sakura with wings that are plagued with feathers. Unfortunately, these feathers disperse to different dimensions, and so does Sakura’s memory. To help his childhood friend regain her memories and to save her life, Syoaran goes at lengths to other another world to do so.

In order to do so, he must travel to the other worlds where her feathers went. An exiled ninja from Japan Country, wishing to return to his world, Kurogane helps out. In addition to Kurogane, Fay, an runaway magician, too, wishes to return to his meat-bun shaped creature Mokona.

  1. Rurouni Kenshin

In the Bakumatsu era, there lived a legendary assassin known as Hitokiri Battousai. He became known for his bad deeds throughout the whole country, yet he disappeared once the Japanese Revolution reached its peak. After that, Japan has come to know peace for ten year. Yet, mentioning Battousai alone makes people tremble.

What they do not know is Battousai no longer sheds blood, but, instead, returned to the life of peace to repent for his sins. Now, he lives as Kenshin Himura, a wandering swordsman plagued with this cheerful attitude and strong will. He vowed to protect the weak. Then, he meets with Kaoru Kamiya at her kendo dojo, which is threatened by an imposter.

  1. Akatsuki no Yona

Princes Yona, another typical princess, who lives in complete luxury and is sheltered from the problems of the seemingly peaceful kingdom of Kouka. Once her father, the king is killed, all of that changes, as she tastes the bitter life. She experiences the betrayal of her beloved cousin and she, now, must leave due to what threatens her life.

To do so, her childhood friend and bodyguard, Son Hak helps her discover the reality of people, of life. This throws princess Yona in a loop of confusion, rendering the wish of reclaiming her rightful place in kingdom almost impossible.

Meet another average girl until she meets her long-awaited faith. Once Momiji finds out the true story behind her family’s name and that she is a descendant of the great Kushinada family. This leaves her the only person with Kushinada’s blood to stop the Aragami.

 

The Aragami are demonic plant-like monsters. These creatures aim to destroy Japan as she knows it. Along with her crusade is the TAC and a possible love interest called Kusanagi.

  1. Otome Youkai Zakuro

In an alternate version of Japan’s Meiji Era, Otomo Youkai Zakuro elaborates on its story. In this alternate version, humans and spirits live together, side by side in the same world. Yet, due to the influence of the Western countries and their religion, that alters everything. The sudden change of religion and acceptance of their tradition leaves them with conflicts, humans and youkai.

To ease these tensions, an organization called the Ministry of Spirits earned itself an establishment. It contained a group of male soldiers and a group of female youkai. Even with that, the picture is yet to be full, as Kei Agemaki is afraid of youkai. On the other hand, Zakuro, a female youkai, dislikes humans who accept western traditions. What will happen when they have to cooperate?

  1. Ushio and Tora

The stubborn middle school student and son of an eccentric temple priest Ushio Aotsuki’s life is about to change 360 degrees. This stubborn male finds it hard to believe in the world of youkai. That forces to think otherwise when he meets with a terrifying youkai impaled by the fabled Beast Spear.

This beast’s name is Tora, a rather famous being for his destructive power. This beast tries his best to lead on Ushio, to make him set him free from his five hundred year seal and enslavement. At first he refuses, but once his friends face danger. Then, he reconsiders, but maybe he did not make the right choice after all.
